The Minnesota State High School League Section Visual Art Competitions are held across the State of Minnesota. At each Section competition, students may receive a Superior Level or Excellent Level award. Judges at each competition also select works to receive Spotlight on the Art Awards.

The Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) is a voluntary, association for the support and governance of interscholastic activities atin, The association supports interscholastic athletics and fine arts programs for member schools. As of 2010, the organization cited a membership of nearly 500 public and private schools, including home schools, charter schools and 435 high schools.

guidelines

  • Submissions due: Varies by section
  • Each school is limited to 18 works per school with no more than 6 works in any one of the 12 categories.
  • Students whose works receive the Spotlight on the Arts Award pins are invited to have those artworks entered into the Judges' Choice Spotlight on the Arts Award exhibition that takes place at the Perpich Center for Arts Education in Golden Valley, MN.
